“The Deep” Immersive Video Game Pitch Bible - 2022 - Procreate - Not For Sale
Artist's Statement
As a black woman, I never saw myself in video games because of the lack of representation of black individuals in the media. Video games were always something I loved but I could never fully connect with the story or the characters in the game. Due to the lack of representation of black individuals in games, I often found myself out of touch with the storyline. This feeling of being out of touch has inspired me to create my own characters with proper black representation that also goes against the stereotypes placed on us.
In my pitch bible, I've used digital painting to create concept art based on “street art” or graffiti inspired by artworks often seen within large cities. I want my visuals to be recognized by people within the black community, but also act as a tool to teach others about more positive ideations that black people can be associated with. I wrote the storyline to raise awareness about black individuals who have gone missing and then are later forgotten. The story also symbolically speaks about gentrification and shows the intelligence and potential of black individuals.
My goal after I graduate is to find a team that involves women and people of color in digital media. I want to have my future team assist me in designing and programming this game and work on voice acting, etc. This pitch bible is a major step toward fulfilling these plans.
