Advising

Advisors are as critical to student success as classroom work. Through the advising process, faculty members will learn about your personal and professional goals and can share life experiences and connections to help you achieve your academic and professional goals.

MDIA students are assigned a faculty advisor upon declaring a major. Contact the School of Media and Communication office to find out your advising assignment, then plan to meet with your advisor at least once a semester.

Effective faculty advising sessions:

  • instill the importance of a liberal arts education
  • promote self-discipline and good planning
  • press the importance of taking responsibility for your actions
  • complete your Junior Audit to graduate on your planned date

A substantial investment is required by both the faculty and students to make the advising relationship a success. Both must come prepared and follow through on commitments made to one another.

 APPEALS PROCESS

Students filing grade change appeals must do so by the fifth week of the following semester (summer does not count) and the grade appeal process must be completed by the end of the semester in which the grade appeal has been filed. All grade appeals may be addressed to Dr. Srnivas Melkote, who will communicate with the MDIA Chair.
