Applied Statistics

The BGSU Master of Science in Applied Statistics (MSAS) and the specialization in business analytics are nationally renowned programs. Both are offered jointly with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

Graduates with a masters in applied statistics are ready for successful careers helping public, private and academic organizations improve decision-making, forecast potential issues and opportunities, build a better understanding of their operations and move the discipline forward.

This degree can be completed in as little as three semesters, while the additional specialization in business analytics is typically completed in four semesters.

Statisticians can be everywhere because statistics are everywhere

The MS in applied statistics program allows students to tailor the curriculum to their career or academic goals. There are a wide variety of electives offered in applied statistics and mathematical statistics including biology, computer science, operations research, accounting, business administration, finance, sociology, actuarial science and math.

The job market seeks people with a strong background in fundamental statistical training and a solid exposure to operations research. Successful statisticians also have a firm understanding of the management of information systems and business operations, business analytics and big data.
