The Media Production and Studies program offers the following degree options:

• The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Media Production and Media Studies.
  
• The Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BAC) with an emphasis in Media Production and Media Studies.

Major, Bachelor of Arts (37- 42 hours in the major)

• MDIA 1030, 2600, 2620, 2630, 2640, 3550, 3600, 3660, 4600, 4890 (28-33)
  
• Focus area: 3 courses at the 3000-4000 level (9). A faculty adviser must approve the focus area.
  
• Earn a grade of "C" or better in all MDIA courses
  
• Complete a minor in another program. A student wishing to pursue an interdisciplinary minor must have the endorsement of the faculty adviser and approval from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Major, Bachelor of Arts in Communication (37- 42 hours in the major)

• Complete a support field of at least 9 hours in one program other than Media Production and Studies. A student wishing to pursue an interdisciplinary support field must make an argument in writing to the faculty adviser. The support field must be declared in writing by the end of the student's junior year.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the baccalaureate degree, students in Media Production and Studies are expected to be able to:

• Comprehend and analyze the historical, cultural, political, and economic contexts that shape the operations of electronic media systems (broadcasting, telephony, Internet, digital media);
• Critically analyze the social, cultural, and psychological effects and implications of electronic media systems from a variety of theoretical and policy perspectives;
  
• Comprehend the key social science research methods used in researching the role of electronically mediated communication processes;
  
• Formulate the effectively communicate ideas in oral, written, and visual contexts;
  
• Comprehend and apply the various production, performance, and writing techniques that are integral to the realization of effective media texts.
  

Accreditation and/or Program/Cluster Review

Bowling Green State University [BGSU] is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.  BGSU has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 01/01/1916. The most recent reaffirmation of accreditation was received in 2012 - 2013. Questions should be directed to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.

Professional Licensure (If applicable)

Bowling Green State University programs leading to licensure, certification and/or endorsement, whether delivered online, face-to-face or in a blended format, satisfy the academic requirements for those credentials set forth by the State of Ohio.

Requirements for licensure, certification and/or endorsement eligibility vary greatly from one profession to another and from state to state. The Media Production and Studies program does not lead to professional licensure.

Gainful Employment (If applicable)     

Under the Higher Education Act Title IV disclosure requirements, an institution must provide current and prospective students with information about each of its programs that prepares students for gainful employment in a recognized occupation.
The Media Production and Studies program is not a recognized occupation that requires a Gainful Employment disclosure.
