BGSU takes home first place in services marketing competition Feb 17, 2014 2:12 PM It was a winning weekend for Bowling Green State University’s service marketing team. The team took home top honors at the first and only services marketing competition in the country, hosted by BGSU’s Service Marketing Institute (SMI) Feb. 13-15. The BGSU team is made up of Kelsey Aufdencamp, Tori Etts, Ashley Flanigan and Michelle Terry, and is coached by Dr. Dwayne Gremler, a professor of marketing.

Students Take On Innovative Project with GE Lighting; Winning Teams Earn Scholarships Feb 4, 2014 3:08 PM With the new year came new regulations from the federal government requiring manufacturers to produce higher efficiency lighting products. GE Lighting (GE) has been a leader in the lighting business since incandescent technology was developed and is working on what the future “intelligent” bulb should look like and what it can be capable of doing. As part of its planning and developing process, GE came to BGSU’s College of Business during the fall semester to work with the senior-level Applied Business Experience (BizX 4000) lab course to offer students an opportunity to gain insights on how a successful company develops concepts for the capabilities of intelligent light bulbs, as well as markets them to consumers. Since the Millennials (those born primarily in the 1980’s and 1990’s) will be the future consumers of these higher efficiency lighting products, GE was interested in finding out what young people want in “the next big thing” in light bulbs.

Economics Student Playing in 2014 Winter Olympics for Native Country Latvia Feb 18, 2014 3:47 PM A sophomore economics student will be taking a few weeks away from academics and the BGSU hockey program to play in the upcoming Olympics for his country – Latvia. Ralfs Freibergs was one of 25 Latvian hockey players selected to compete in the Sochi games.

Findlay PMBA Program Launches with Inaugural Cohort Feb 13, 2014 10:08 AM Twenty-three working professionals in the Findlay area have started their Professional MBA (PMBA) program with BGSU this month. The new cohort launches the College of Business PMBA program in its new Findlay location, expanding offerings from its northern location at Levis Commons in Perrysburg.

BGSU Team Crowned Champions of Nation’s First Service Marketing Competition Feb 18, 2014 1:45 PM The first and only service marketing competition in the country was hosted on campus February 13-15 by BGSU’s Service Marketing Institute (SMI), part of the Department of Marketing. Seven universities competed in a series of three intense service marketing rounds: Service Blueprint, Service Recovery, and Customer Complaint. First place went to BGSU’s team of Kelsey Aufdencamp, Tori Etts, Ashley Flanigan, and Michelle Terry. They were coached by Dr. Dwayne Gremler, professor of marketing.

MBA Programs Receive Two National Recognitions for Excellence Feb 13, 2014 9:58 AM BGSU’s College of Business is proud to announce two recent recognitions of its MBA programs that continue to validate the high quality education that students receive here. In the first-ever Best for Vets: Business Schools 2013, the College of Business is ranked #10 in the country among business schools. Results of the rankings were released by Military Times, a Gannett Company publication.

Princeton Review Again Honors College Among the Best Feb 13, 2014 9:44 AM The College of Business continues to be recognized by The Princeton Review among the “Best 295 Business Schools” in its new 2014 publication. This recognition is a result of student surveys and BGSU’s students had high praise for our graduate and executive programs in business.

Successful Business Leaders Mentor Student Entrepreneurs Feb 14, 2014 8:37 AM Seventy-six BGSU students and 100 business ideas were submitted to the Dallas-Hamilton Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership for "The Hatch" on April 9. Twelve students were selected to present their business ideas to a group of investors. In order to prepare their business presentations, the students were matched with a dozen highly success alumni mentors to work with them for ten weeks.

Winners of Supply Chain Case Competition Announced; Institute’s Spring Meeting Feb 18, 2014 1:41 PM February 10 was a busy day for the Department of Management with a supply chain case competition followed by the Spring Dinner Meeting of the Supply Chain Management Institute (SCMI). During the afternoon, seventeen business students put their supply chain expertise to work by competing in the 3rd BGSU Supply Chain Management Case Competition. SCMI and the student Supply Chain Management Association co-sponsored the case competition. The seven teams of students presented a case they prepared to judges and a live audience. First place honors went to graduate students, Zachary Bourdon and Stephen Hagerman. Zach is pursuing a master’s of applied statistics and Stephen is a full-time MBA student.

Business Students Attend Job Fair; Prepare With Business Career Day Feb 17, 2014 11:45 AM More and more college students are focused on getting an internship, along with obtaining a full-time job after graduation. BGSU business students had a great opportunity to connect with recruiters at the 2014 Spring EXPO Job and Internship Fair. Approximately 500 business students attended the job fair which accounted for 56% of total student attendees. One hundred and seventy-six employers had booths set up at Perry Field House with 75% of the companies focused on filling business-oriented positions.

T-Shirt Design Contest Announced for Business Olympics Event Feb 26, 2014 2:46 PM The Second Annual Business Olympics is set for Thursday, April 17! This year the College of Business and its Student Ambassadors are asking for business students to submit designs for a t-shirt that participants and attendees will wear at the event. The winner of the design, voted upon by the Student Ambassadors, will be awarded 100 CBA Reward Points, a gift basket of CBA goodies, and recognition at the event.

Marketing Professor Honored for One of Four Best Papers in 2013 Feb 27, 2014 9:35 AM Dr. Dwayne Gremler, professor of marketing and a Fulbright Scholar, recently received a “Highly Commended Award” from the Journal of Service Management for co-authoring one of the top four papers in 2013. The article is entitled “Effects of Perceived Employee Emotional Competence on Customer Satisfaction and Loyalty: The Mediating Role of Rapport.”

MAcc Attacks Cancer by Participating in Relay for Life Feb 24, 2014 2:03 PM Students in the Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program teamed up to work on a significant project that did not relate to their academics but rather to help reach the worthy goal of "attacking" cancer and wiping it out by finding a cure. More than half of the enrolled graduate students in the MAcc program joined together and formed a large team that participated in the local American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life held at BGSU’s Perry Field House. They took turns walking a total of 12 hours around the indoor track throughout the night of November 15.

Students Compete in Sales Competitions This Fall; BGSU Winners Announced Feb 24, 2014 2:07 PM BGSU has a decade-long tradition of excelling at sales competitions and has achieved the fourth best record of universities competing in the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC). In order to improve their sales skills and prepare for NCSC, our students compete in regional competitions. This fall, our students participated in several regional sales competitions, including a new one – William Paterson University-Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales in New Jersey.

Executive MBA Students Travel Abroad to See Globalization First Hand Feb 24, 2014 2:10 PM As part of the Executive MBA (EMBA) courses of Global Leadership and Global Supply Chain management, students travel to other countries to experience the culture and to learn business operations up close. This year’s global trip took students to Argentina and Chile for ten days which was packed with meetings and tours. Students met with top executives at the South American branches of two American companies - Dana Corporation and Owens-Illinois. Students also met with a senior economist at one of Argentina’s largest banks, Banco Itau, and the director of corporate investment at Banco Santander in Chile, to hear about the economic trends and the role of U.S. companies in those countries.
