Findlay PMBA Program Launches with Inaugural Cohort
Twenty-three working professionals in the Findlay area have started their Professional MBA (PMBA) program with BGSU this month. The new cohort launches the College of Business PMBA program in its new Findlay location, expanding offerings from its northern location at Levis Commons in Perrysburg.
The students are excited to begin their graduate studies. One student, Kevin Boose, a quality control engineer at Sanoh America in Findlay, says, “I am excited to take the next step in my educational career. I am interested in gaining more knowledge in the subjects of business and management. I expect to learn skills that will make me more productive, efficient, and successful in my career. I am currently working in the manufacturing industry and hope to continue in that industry for years to come. It is a challenging industry that needs strong leaders and excellent managers and I want to have the ability to fill key roles in prestigious companies in the future.”
Another graduate student, Craig Davis, works for Marathon Petroleum Company as the advanced project development representative for the Terminal, Transport, & Rail Organization. He explains his expectations for the upcoming coursework as well as the faculty. “I anticipate the coursework will be challenging, especially from the perspective of time commitment. With other things competing for my time, it will be challenging to dedicate enough time each week for school. I expect the faculty to come prepared for class and to share real-life applications for the subjects we are learning. I want to be able to use the information to add value at my job.”
He adds, “I hope the MBA classes will provide perspectives I have not been exposed to and also provide knowledge/experience I can build on in the future. Getting an MBA will not guarantee future success or advancement at my job, but it will provide a good foundation for a wide variety of career paths.”
So why did they choose BGSU’s program? “Findlay classes are a huge plus for me,” states Davis. “This significantly reduces my time and cost commitment compared with traveling to Perrysburg. In addition to proximity, the other major factor was BG's accreditation by the AACSB. Accreditation shows me (and also shows employers) that BG meets the highest standards with this program. I also know several coworkers that completed the program and everyone had good things to say about it.”
Boose has similar reasons for selecting the College’s program. “BGSU is one of the schools that I have considered because of its location. With an off-campus cohort starting in Findlay in January, my desire to start in this program has grown. Since I live and work in Findlay, I want to enter into a program that is close to Findlay. I also picked the PMBA program at BGSU since it is accredited by AACSB-International. It is important to me to complete a program that will be recognized by employers in the future.”
In addition to the accreditation, BGSU’s MBA programs are recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the best in the country, according to the 2013 “Best 296 Business Schools” publication.
PMBA classes in Findlay are held at the Community Education and Wellness Center at the Owens Community College Findlay Campus. Students meet two nights per week and the degree can be earned in 23 months.
