Eligibility & Requirements

To qualify for a Noyce Recipient Stipend, students must:
Meet citizenship requirements of the National Science Foundation (U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, aliens admitted as refugees, or aliens with lawful permanent residence).

  • Have earned a non-education college degree in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering or a mathematics discipline) or worked or working as a STEM professional.
  • Complete BGSU’s ATTP with at least a 3.0 overall GPA.
  • Participate in RESULTS Noyce Scholarship mentoring activities with assigned Local Teacher and BGSU EDHD Faculty mentor.
  • Commit to teach full-time in a high-need middle or high school classroom as a STEM teacher. Teach STEM disciplines specifically for two years (within eight years of finishing the RESULTS program.) If not fulfilled, the stipend will need to be repaid.
  • Participate in all seminars, the online learning community and BGSU and NSF reporting requirements which will occur from late August to mid-August.

Definition of a High Needs School

The term "high-need local educational agency (or high-need LEA)", as defined in section 201 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1021), means a U.S. local educational agency (e.g., school district) that has at least one school in their district that:

a. meets at least one of the following criteria:

i. not less than 20% of the children served by the agency are from low income families;
ii.  serves at least 10,000 children from low-income families;
iii.  is eligible for funding under the Small, Rural School Achievement Program under 20 U.S.C. 7345(b); or
iv.  is eligible for funding under the Rural and Low-Income School Program under 20 U.S.C. 7351(b);

and also

b. meets at least one of the following criteria:

i. has a high percentage of teachers not teaching in the academic subject areas or grade levels in which the teachers were trained to teach; or
ii.  has a high teacher turnover rate or a high percentage of teachers with emergency, provisional, or temporary certification or licensure.

NOTE: The term "high-need local educational agency (or high-need LEA)" is synonymous with "high-need school district."
