Community Participants:

This learning community is for anyone who teaches fully online (asynchronous) courses. It may be particularly well-suited to those who are looking for inspiration, ways to invigorate their online curriculum, and/or for those who want to brainstorm challenges experienced as an online instructor. You must have current knowledge of Canvas and its basic tools (e.g., course design, Announcements, Grading, Course set-up, Discussion Forums, etc..) to participate in this community.

Community Description:

This learning community will support, guide, and inspire faculty who primarily or fully teach online (remote/asynchronously). Our community will provide a meaningful way to hone the craft we take great pride in, allowing you to feel invigorated and connected to your fellow colleagues.

You can expect focused topic sessions from your facilitator and opportunities for reflection, discussion, sharing, show-and tell, and targeted support for challenges experienced in online teaching and learning. You will find inspiration through examples of best practices, as well as discover strategic ways to design and deliver quality online teaching and learning. Topics will include strategies that level-up active learning, assessment and feedback, student retention, and online instructor vitality. Instructional technologies that help level-up our teaching and learning will be underscored throughout.

All sessions will be held in Zoom, with the exception of one informal, in-person session at The Oaks* with our Level-Up colleagues. A Canvas “course” will house supplemental resources. Sessions will cover targeted content and include opportunities for discussion, sharing of exemplars, collaborating, and problem-solving.

Community Learning Outcomes:

By participating in this community, you will be able to:

  • Recognize active teaching and learning strategies for the online classroom.
  • Recommend a variety of assessment and feedback methods in the online classroom.
  • Identify instructional technology(ies) to promote active, engaged teaching and learning.
  • Identify retention strategies to support student success in the online classroom.
  • Identify methods to ensure instructor vitality as an online faculty member.

Participant Expectations:*

As a member of this community, you are expected to:

  • Meet the community learning outcomes.
  • Attend all sessions and complete all deliverables. Participants who miss one session will still be eligible to receive funds for participation through the CFE but must complete all reflections and the Level-Up Action Plan.
  • Fully commit to each session and actively engage with members of their learning community.
  • Dialogue, share, and support the growth of your fellow online faculty members, as we work to support you.
