Communities of Practice
Communities of Practice
Each academic year, the Center for Faculty Excellence works with our Faculty Associates and campus partners to develop and deliver innovative and timely Communities of Practice. CFE Communities of Practice include book clubs, writing groups, podcast listening clubs, learning communities, and other semester and year-long learning opportunities. CFE Communities of Practice are open to all BGSU faculty members, adjunct instructors, graduate students, and administrative and classified staff members, unless noted otherwise.
Fall 2024 Communities of Practice
The following Communities of Practices will start during the Fall 2024 semester:
- Building Your Foundation: Early Career Faculty Learning Community (Fall 2024-Spring 2025)
- Fostering Critical Thinking Through AI Literacy Learning Community (Fall 2024)*
- Graduate Student Instructor Learning Community (Fall 2024)*
- Graduate Student Mentorship for a Diverse Student Population Learning Community (Fall 2024-Spring 2025)
- Next Level Online Teaching: Advancing Teaching & Learning in the Online Classroom Learning Community (Fall 2024)*
- Service-Learning Community of Practice (Fall 2024)
- Small Teaching: Manageable Changes to Support Student Success Learning Community (Fall 2024)*
- Unlocking Student Potential Using Active and Guided Inquiry Learning Community (Fall 2024)*

*These communities will be offered again during the Spring 2025 semester.
Community Participant Expectations
As a member of a CFE Community of Practice, you are expected to:
- Meet the community learning outcomes.
- Actively participate in and attend at least 80% of all scheduled community meetings (or meet the participation requirement determined by the facilitator).
- Complete any assignments and/or asynchronous tasks.
- Complete any necessary deliverable activities or projects as determined by the facilitator.
Funds-Eligible Learning Communities
All participants in funds-eligible learning communities will be required to complete a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the beginning of the semester stating that they understand the participant expectations for the community they are participating in. Upon successfully meeting the participant expectations, participants in funds-eligible learning communities will receive $100 at the conclusion of the semester that they participate in the community. Participants must currently be employed by a department at BGSU to be eligible to receive the funds.
Community Registration
Registration for the Fall 2024 and 2024-2025 Communities of Practice is closed. Registration for the Spring 2025 communities will open at the beginning of the spring semester.
