How to Apply
Please apply for admission online. All applicants are considered for funding support and must begin the program in the fall semester. To ensure full consideration, please submit all application materials outlined below by January 15.
Programs
Admission to the PhD program (including those who start at its Master’s level) is contingent on the completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a cumulative graduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale. Applicants must provide the following materials in their online application:
- Completed application. See Graduate Application Instructions page.
- Resume.
- Three letters of recommendation, at least two of which are from professors familiar with the applicant's academic work.
- Example of your academic writing, such as a class paper. Applicants who are completing or have already completed a master’s degree should consider their thesis proposal or completed thesis for submission.
- 500-word statement of interest describing the research interests you hope to pursue in graduate school, your professional goals and aspirations, and why you believe that Bowling Green’s graduate program will help you pursue these interests and achieve these goals. Please include in your statement the names of any faculty with interests similar to your own.
- Any unofficial copies of your transcripts, GRE scores (optional), and TOEFL or other English language test scores to help expedite departmental review of your application (official copies should be sent directly to the Graduate College).

M (Applied Demography)
Admission to the Applied Demography MA program is contingent on the completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale. Applicants must provide the following materials in their online application:
- Completed application. See Graduate Application Instructions page.
- Resume.
- Three letters of recommendation, at least two of which are from professors familiar with the applicant's academic work.
- Example of your academic writing, such as a class paper.
- 500-word personal statement describing the research interests you hope to pursue in graduate school, professional goals and aspirations, and why you believe that Bowling Green’s graduate program will help you pursue these interests and achieve these goals. Please include in your statement the names of any faculty with interests similar to your own.
