Why Study Canada?

A Canadian Studies minor offers students an interdisciplinary focus on one of the United States’ most important international relationships – Canada. Students can study areas of interest in greater depth which will enhance future career opportunities. Canadian Studies can be used with any major.

The Minor

• Consists of 18 credit hours and is planned in consultation with the Director of Canadian Studies.
• Canadian Studies 201 – Introduction to Canadian Studies (3) is required. This course takes a comparative approach contrasting Canada to the United States in history, geography, political systems, economy, literature, art, and popular culture.
• History 414 – History of Canada (3) is also required.
• The remaining 12 credit hours are arranged to complement the student’s major. No more than six credit hours from this minor can be used for another major, minor, or group requirement.
• The study of French is strongly advised.
