Caryl Crane Youth Theatre holding open auditions for 2020-21 CCYT Competition team productions

Caryl Crane Youth Theatre at BGSU Firelands College is holding open auditions for actors, singers and dancers ages 10 and up for the 2020-2021 CCYT competition team productions of:

·“The Drowsy Chaperone,” to be performed at the Junior Theatre Festival on Jan. 15-18 in Atlanta*

·“Disney on Broadway,” to be performed at the National Performing Arts Festival on Feb. 18-22 in Orlando, Fla.*

·The MTCA Competition Team — available only to sophomores, juniors and seniors only, Feb. 5-7*

*Please note that all competition team festivals are subject to cancelation dependent on the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing rules and regulations set forth at that time.

Caryl Crane Youth Theatre's Competition Team will return to the iTheatrics Junior Theatre Festival on Jan. 15-18, presenting “The Drowsy Chaperone Jr.” The show will then be presented in its entirety in February in the McBride Auditorium at BGSU Firelands College. The theatre is seeking 25 actors and technicians to travel and compete.

CCYT will also return to the National Performing Arts Festival on Feb. 18-22 in Orlando, presenting an original musical revue, “Disney on Broadway.” The show will then be presented in its entirety in late spring 2021 in the McBride Auditorium at BGSU Firelands College. The theatre is seeking 24 actors and technicians to travel and compete.

CCYT's Seniors, with select sophomores and juniors, will compete at the Musical Theatre Competitions of America with “Cats” and an original musical revue of the music of Stiles and Drewe (“Honk!,” “Mary Poppins”). The theatre is seeking 12 actors/technicians.

Through these three festivals, CCYT will compete with more than 500 other youth theatres and school drama teams from around the country in festivals dedicated to showcasing the talents of our best young musical theatre performers.

The CCYT comp will consist of 24-49 students (actors may be cast in more than one production), ages 10-18, who will be chosen through a series of virtual auditions.

Rehearsals for all three productions will begin mid-November, and will consist of weekday evenings and some weekends. The competition team productions will rehearse on the same day (example: “Drowsy” from 5:30-7:30; “Disney on Broadway,” 7:30-9:30). Saturday rehearsals will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and select Sunday afternoons will start at 1 p.m. All actors cast in the competition team productions must participate in their full productions on the McBride stage in Spring 2021.

AUDITIONS FOR THE TEAM

Actors will audition via a one-hour zoom call. The sign-up genius link will be sent after the form has been completed. Actors will audition in groups of 10.

Seeking strong Singer-Actors and dancers. Must be able to sing harmony. Not every show requires dance training but strong movement ability is necessary from all actors.

To sign-up for a time, you must complete the audition form.

SINGING:

Prepare a short selection of a musical theatre song that shows off your range and abilities. A 32-bar cut is sufficient. Have an instrumental track ready to play for your call. Any questions about songs, send to him at carylcraneyouththeatre@gmail.com

DANCING:

You may be asked to submit a video of your dancing abilities after the initial audition.

READING:

You may or may not be asked to read from the script. If needed, material will be provided at the audition in the Chat window.

PLEASE NOTE: The CCYT Competition Team will partner with the CCYT Advisory Board to fundraise for the trips. Whether you are cast in one or both, you are a member of the competition team and we will fundraise for the Team together. All proceeds from fundraising will be split 50/50 between each experience. We have received some grant monies for the Competition Team and are seeking sponsors for both JTF and NPAF (if you have any connections to a team/show sponsor, please call Brian immediately). This year, there will be two-three fundraisers only, a summer cash-raffle as well as another fundraiser TBD during the performance weekend of Something Rotten Jr. in September. Each student and chaperone must participate fully in all fundraising activities and will be financially responsible for any portion of their trip that is not procured by fundraising, potentially up to $575/per actor for JTF and up to $1,700/per actor for NPAF. MTCA students will not participate in CCYT fundraising for their trip.
