BGSU Firelands to host virtual ‘Voices of Democracy’ series

“Voices of Democracy” will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 featuring “Better Arguments with Dr. John Corvino.” An accomplished author and professor of philosophy at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, Corvino is an expert on rhetoric and dissecting political and cultural discourse. Corvino will present how to identify fallacies in the media and by politicians along with a framework for creating effective and productive arguments.

The series will continue at 7 p.m. Oct. 6, as BGSU Firelands will host a panel of local community leaders engaging in a conversation on immigration. In this presentation titled “America the Borderland: A Community Conversation on Immigration,” community leaders will provide a fact-based exploration of the current state of immigration in our community and at the state and national level. This conversation will reflect on our shared immigrant history and discuss the ways in which immigration continues to shape the experience of being an American.

The series concludes at 5 p.m. Oct. 22 with “Truth is the Only Client: The Official Investigation into the Murder of John F. Kennedy,” featuring an in-depth conversation into the investigation of the JFK assassination, a pivotal event in the nation's history that has influenced the public's trust in government and the quest for the truth. The panel will include Judge C. Ellen Connally '67, a BGSU alumna and JFK scholar; Judge Burt Griffin, Warren Commission attorney; and Todd Kwait, the documentary’s filmmaker.
