Kinesiology

The master’s program is named Kinesiology to emphasize a broad base study of human movement. The core of courses in Kinesiology is flexible in order to accommodate a variety of student's interests and needs. Students may also take advantage of the program’s flexibility to create a more eclectic program that samples systematically from the rich variety of courses available for graduate study. All students in Kinesiology complete either a project, thesis, or comprehensive exam. The courses in the program are planned on a two year rotation for two years of study; however, it is possible to graduate within three semesters of study. Based graduate faculty’s research expertise, areas of study include:

  • Biomechanics 
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Exercise Psychology
  • Physical Education Teacher Education
  • Sport Psychology

This specialization is planned for two years of study. The minimum credit hours for graduation vary between Plans.

Plan I - Thesis Research: 32 credit hours

Plan II - Master’s Project or Comprehensive Exam: 33 credit hours

Specialization Credit Requirements

An emphasis in a particular cognate (e.g., biomechanics, exercise science, physical education, physiology, or sport psychology) is developed with your academic advisor. You will work closely with your advisor in selecting courses and deciding whether to complete a thesis, master's project, or comprehensive exam.
