Business Student Skates His Way to Pro Hockey Team Contract
Ryan Carpenter, a junior business student specializing in finance, has signed a contract with the San Jose Sharks and will be joining the team’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Worcester Sharks. Carpenter, a native of Oviedo, Florida, compiled 16 goals in 15 games this season and played an important role down the stretch to help BGSU advance to the WCHA Final Five where he scored two goals and three assists in the playoffs.
As reported in the Sharks’ news release, General Manager Doug Wilson praised Carpenter’s skills. “Ryan has proven to be a very dynamic player in his three seasons playing under Bowling Green Head Coach Chris Bergeron," said Wilson. "He has shown significant leadership and scoring ability in his collegiate career and we look forward to his continued development. He's the kind of player that can play in all situations and fits the mold of the type of player our organization is looking for."
In the 2012-13 season, Carpenter was named to the All-CCHA Second Team and the CCHA Scholar-Athlete team and he was co-captain of the Falcons for two seasons.
