Student Withdraw Process
Whether you are deciding to take some time away from BGSU to focus on your overall well being, finances, or now is just not the right time to be here, we know withdrawing can be a tough decision with lots of considerations. Below are some aspects to think through as you are deciding on what is best for your success.
BEFORE WITHDRAWING
Financial Aid
Before withdrawing, it is important to connect with the Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships to see how your financial aid may be impacted. Additionally, if you are away from any college for more than six months, your student loans will enter repayment status. Contact the Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships with any questions at 419-372-2651.
Important Dates
Withdrawal from the university is only permitted before the last five days of the semester (must be before finals week begins). A student who withdraws during the last five weeks of a semester may not return until at least one intervening semester has passed (fall, spring, or summer), except by special permission of the Dean of the College. Please contact the College of Arts and Sciences at 419-372-2015 for assistance with obtaining special permission.
ONCE YOU HAVE DECIDED TO WITHDRAW
How to Withdraw
Below you will find the steps to withdraw, everything can be done online:
1. Log in to myBGSU and go to your STUDENT CENTER
2. Click the “Classes & Registration” card in the Student Center
3. Click the “Withdraw From Term” link in the left column
4. Fill out the Withdrawal Questionnaire and submit the form, which will initiate the process to drop all classes
Bursar's Office
Have questions about your tuition? Please visit bgsu.edu/bursar/tuition-and-fees.html#withdrawals and the Office of the Bursar at 419-372-2815 to discuss if any options are available.
Residence Life
If you are living on-campus, be sure to check out at your Residence Hall front desk to complete move out paperwork and return your room key. This is an important step so you will not be charged for an improper move out or for replacing your key.
Dining & Meal Plans
If you have a meal plan on campus, you will want to let BGSU Dining know that you are withdrawing. You can contact the Campus Dining Accounting Office at 419-372-7933 to discuss next steps.
Academics
After you withdraw from your courses, your courses will show up on your transcript as a “W.” These will not have an impact on your GPA. If any of the courses you were enrolled in are required for your degree, you will need to retake them. Your Academic Advisor and Planner will be the best person to ask any questions regarding your academic plans. They are also the best person to reach out to when you are ready to return to BGSU to help you register for classes.
Do I Need to Reapply to BGSU to Return?
If you have been inactive for less than two years, a readmission application is not required. Contact the Office of Academic Planning at 419-372-8943 or advising@bgsu.edu if you have questions about your next steps.
If it has been more than two years since you were an active student, you will need to submit an application for Readmission on the Registration & Records website: bgsu.edu/registration-records/admission-services.
