BGSU hosts 12th annual population conference with OSU
The 12th annual BGSU/OSU Graduate Student Conference on population, co-sponsored by the Institute for Population Research at The Ohio State University and the Center for Family and Demographic Research at Bowling Green State University, was held November 2, 2018. More than 20 BGSU students, faculty, and staff participated in the event. The 2019 event is planned for November 1 at OSU.
Students honored for research excellence
Kyle Bares won the BGSU Graduate College Shanklin Research Excellence Award for his paper and research (with Assistant Professor Tom Mowen) on the role of parole officers as sources of support during the reentry process.
Paul Hemez was this year's recipient of the Donald J. and Susan E. Adamchak Graduate Student Award in Demography for his research "Military Service and Entry into First Marriage: Comparing Service Members to Civilians." Established by Donald and Susan Adamchak (both BGSU alumni who earned graduate degrees in sociology), the award recognizes a graduate student's research excellence in demography.
Brian Timm was named "People's Choice" in BGSUs "Three-Minute Dissertation Competition." Brian presented “The Long Reach of Delinquent Networks in Late Adolescence on Criminal Activity in Early Adulthood.” Read more about the competition
- Colette Allred won a research poster award during the 2019 Population Association of America (PAA) conference for her work "Educational Heterogamy and Relationship Quality: A Couple-Level Analysis."
- Kasey Eickmeyer, Wendy Manning, Monica Longmore, & Peggy Giordano were named research poster winners during the 2019 PAA conference for their presentation "Income Pooling, as Investment and Adaptive Strategy Among Young Adults."
- Marissa Landeis, Karen Guzzo, Wendy Manning, Monica Longmore, & Peggy Giordano were awarded research poster honors at the 2019 PAA conference for their research poster "Does IPV Affect Entry Into Parenthood and Fertility Intentions?"
