My project of interest is “Examining the Generational Impacts of Immigration-Based Trauma on Language Aquisition." Existing research has shown that trauma in childhood can have a negative impact on language acquisition and that trauma from experiences such as immigration can be passed down between generations through what is usually referred to as "transgenerational trauma". For my project, I am exploring whether or not this language difficulty will be transmitted along with transgenerational trauma among first- and second-generation immigrant youth from Mexico and Central America.
