My research project title is “The Effects of Self-Compassion on Perfectionism in Music Performance Majors” and I’ll be studying how increased self-compassion through an intervention can hopefully reduce perfectionist tendencies in music majors and how this will affect their performance. Often, perfectionists believe that being overly critical is the only way to improve and, therefore, being compassionate to yourself will result in a lower playing level. My research will put this to the test to see if an experimental group that receives self-compassion intervention will have a similar playing level as an overly critical group while having reduced perfectionist tendencies.
