Internships that Pay
Most internships are non-paying positions, and yet there are a surprising number of exceptions to this rule.
The Department of History has set aside one summer non-service fellowship for a student with an internship at a distant location. This fellowship is awarded to a department student on a competitive basis. Look for an invitation to apply for it during the spring semester.
In addition, a number of internships offer paying positions. These include:
The Wood County Historical Center , which offers the $2500 Rebecca Pelton Memorial Fellowship to support the work of an intern there each summer. Look for an announcement during the spring term inviting applications.
Toledo Metroparks offers a number of public history summer internships at Providence Metropark that pay an hourly wage historical interpreters. Look for an announcement during the spring term inviting applications.
The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village offer the Simmons Internship Program for students to work on curatorial projects there. Internships pay up to $1400 per month and are awarded on a competitive basis. The application deadline is in February. Look for an announcement inviting applications.
The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation offers Practicum Grants for Ph.D. students who pursue internship opportunities outside academe. Grants are available in amounts up to $1500. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
