Personal Protective Equipment Program
Fact Sheet
- BGSU is required by State law (Public Employee Risk Reduction Act) and subsequent rules to develop and implement safety protocols in the form of a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Program. (Examples of personal protective equipment are gloves, hard hats, goggles, steeltoe shoes, etc.)
- To comply with state mandates, the BGSU Personal Protective Equipment Program was developed with university involvement. (Professors, supervisors, non administrative employees)
- This program applies to:
- Most academic and non-academic departments
- The BGSU Personal Protective Equipment Program addresses the minimal requirements of the law, including:
- Hazard assessment of departments
- PPE used as last alternative
- PPE selection guidelines
- Providing PPE at no cost to the employee
- Employee training
- Supervisor and upper-management supervision and enforcement
- Implementation Date: Fall Semester 1997
