Marla Butke, Ph.D., retired Professor of Music, is a Master Teaching Artist and Immediate Past-President of the American Eurhythmics Society. She frequently presents Dalcroze Eurhythmics workshops throughout the USA and internationally, including at AMIS, ACDA, OAKE, AOSA, NAfME, as well as at numerous state music education conferences. Former academic positions include Professor of Music at Ashland University, and adjunct professor at Otterbein, Capital, and Xavier Universities where she has taught general music methods, conducting, choral methods, and directed various choral ensembles. Dr. Butke has co-authored two books with Dr. David Frego, Meaningful Movement: A Music Teacher’s Guide to Dalcroze Eurhythmics published by Music is Elementary (2016) and Dalcroze Eurhythmics in the Choral Classroom published by Hal Leonard (2021).

David Frego, Ph.D., is Professor and Director of the Penn State University School of Music. He is past president of the American Eurhythmics Society and a lifetime member of the American Choral Directors Association. Dr. Frego regularly presents workshops on Dalcroze Eurhythmics throughout the globe. Other teaching and research areas include dance philosophy and the application of Dalcroze Eurhythmics as palliative care for adults with post-traumatic stress. He has published book chapters, DVDs, and research articles for music education and for arts medicine journals. Dr. Frego regularly presents workshops on Dalcroze Eurhythmics throughout the globe. He has co-authored two books with Dr. Marla Butke, Meaningful Movement: A Music Teacher’s Guide to Dalcroze Eurhythmics (Music is Elementary Press) and Dalcroze Eurhythmics in the Choral Classroom (Hal Leonard).

Dr. Richard Schnipke serves as Assistant Professor of Conducting at Bowling Green State University.  His duties at BGSU include conducting the Collegiate Chorale and Men’s Chorus, as well as teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in choral performance and music education.  Previously, Dr. Schnipke held faculty positions at Xavier University and The Ohio State University and spent 15 years as an Ohio public school choral director.  He holds degrees from Bowling Green State University and Ohio State University, and has done additional graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.  

Choirs under Schnipke’s direction have sung for conferences of the Ohio Music Education Association, the Ohio Choral Directors Association, and the association of Intercollegiate Men’s Choruses. In the fall of 2016, the Xavier University Edgecliff Vocal Ensemble performed at the American Musicological Society’s International Conference in Vancouver, BC.  During the 2016-2017 academic year, Dr. Schnipke also co-presented at conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, and the Ohio Music Education Association on the incorporation of Dalcroze Eurhythmics in the choral rehearsal.

As a vocalist, Dr. Schnipke has performed regularly with several professional choral ensembles and has served as tenor section leader for Cincinnati’s Vocal Arts Ensemble (Grammy Award winner, Craig Hella Johnson, music director).  Dr. Schnipke also serves as President of the Ohio Choral Directors Association.

Driving to BG 

Bowling Green, Ohio is located near Interstate 75 and U.S. Route 6, on State Route 25. The University is on East Wooster Street between State Route 25 and Interstate 75. It is easily accessible from the Ohio Turnpike via exit 64/4A.

Flights 

If you arrive by plane, we suggest that you rent a car for transportation or make arrangements for shuttle service. You can book a ride with BG Airport Shuttle or search online for other options in the Bowling Green area.

If you would like to travel by train, the closest Amtrack station is located in Toledo Ohio. From there, you will need to coordinate travel arrangements.
