Sport Management Alliance
The Sport Management Alliance (SMA) is an undergraduate pre-professional student organization affiliated with the Sport Management program within the School of Human Movement, Sport and Leisure Studies at BGSU. All students interested in working in the sports industry are eligible to join. The organization has made a long-term commitment to provide all sport management majors with opportunities such as listening to various speakers, trips to conferences and events and professional development opportunities relating to the sport industry. In addition, all members receive MVP Access to TeamWork Online. This benefit increases the likelihood of being interviewed and hired by three to four times over those who do not have MVP Access to TeamWork Online.
SMA holds general meetings during Fall and Spring semesters with each meeting featuring speakers from multiple areas of the sport industry.
SMA has increased networking opportunities for its members. A one-day Fall trip and a two-day Spring trip are standard as are trips to mega events such as Super bowls, NHL All-Star Games and NCAA tournament games. Also included are smaller networking trips as well as a partnership with the Mid-American Conference in assisting with their Football Championship in Detroit, Mich. and the MAC Basketball Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio.
Previous trip locations include:
- The University of Notre Dame
- Cleveland, OH – Browns, Cavaliers
- Indianapolis, IN – NCAA Headquarters, USA Football, Pacers, Lucas Oil Stadium
- Cincinnati, OH – Reds, Western/Southern Open
- The University of Louisville
