Sport Management Alliance
The Sport Management Alliance is an undergraduate pre-professional student organization affiliated with the Sport Management program within the School of Human Movement, Sport, and Leisure Studies. All Sport Management majors are eligible to join and participate in Alliance activities. All faculty in the Sport Management program are honorary SMA members. The organization has made a long term commitment to provide all sport management majors MVP Access to TeamWork Online. This additional benefit for all sport management majors increases the likelihood of being interviewed and hired by 3 – 4 times than those who do not have MVP Access on TeamWork Online.
The SMA holds general meetings during Fall and Spring semesters.
The Sport Management Alliance traveled to Detroit this fall to meet with the Tigers and Red Wings and toured their facilities. The spring trip looks to broaden the organization’s horizons by traveling to Washington D.C. or St. Louis. The organization looks to expand its networking even further during their Fall and Spring trips by coordinating a networking event with other Sport Management Student organizations during their trips. Previous trips have included:
- The University of Notre Dame
- Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers, Indians
- Pittsburgh Pirates and Penguins
- Cincinnati Bengals and Reds
- Chicago Bears and Cubs
The Sport Management Alliance focuses on the professional development of our members. Not only is our primary focus on resume building but also to prepare our membership for their professional careers by creating strong networks of industry professionals, professional development talks to prepare them for future careers in the industry, and opportunities to serve the surrounding community through organizations like the Special Olympics of Wood County. Our membership proudly represents the Sport Management Alliance while working at various sporting events for:
- Bowling Green State University Athletics
- Mid American Conference Championships
- Multiple Super Bowls
- RedsFest
- NCAA March Madness Regional tournament
- Many other athletic events across the Midwest
Through its history and its professional and hardworking reputation, the Sport Management Alliance is the go to organization when these events need volunteers to mobilize to staff their events.
Recent SMA service activities include:
- Day of operations assistance at BGSU sporting events
- Participation in Campus Fest
- Chuck-a-puck for Toledo Walleye
As part of developing a reputation of professionalism and hard work, the Sport Management Alliance has expanded its offering of on campus events. This fall we had our Inaugural 5 a Side Soccer Tournament presented by Vito’s Pizzas and Subs. The tournament featured 14 teams and over 90 participants. Additionally, in the Spring the Sport Management Alliance will revamp its fall event to host a 1-on-1 Basketball Tournament and Dunk Contest. A King and Queen of the court will be crowned on the campus of Bowling Green State University.
