About Us

The goal of Student Legal Services (SLS) is to provide prompt, efficient and high quality legal assistance. If the type or complexity of your problem exceeds the scope or capabilities of SLS, you may be referred for additional services, at your expense, to attorneys and resources in the community. 

The office of Student Legal Services at Bowling Green State University was established in 1984 at the request of students who were frustrated with mistreatment by local landlords. Since then, SLS has helped thousands of students through counsel, negotiation and litigation.  The legal services provided for students have significantly expanded throughout the years.  Services are now provided in additional areas including traffic violations, misdemeanor criminal defense, employment, consumer protection, name changes, marriage dissolution, estate planning and other legal issues. Last year over 1,200 students received assistance in a variety of legal matters.

SLS is a private third-party non-profit that contracts with BGSU to give students their own privately retained lawyers. Our offices currently employ two full-time attorneys with more than 50 years of combined legal experience.
