Dr. Stephanie Thurmond is an accomplished academic and clinical expert in physical therapy, currently serving as the School Director, Professor, and DPT Program Director at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). With a Doctorate in Science (ScD) from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Hardin-Simmons University, Dr. Thurmond brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role.

Since joining BGSU in 2020, Dr. Thurmond has led significant advancements in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, including the development of new curricula and the creation of over 35 new courses. She is dedicated to fostering innovative teaching methods, as evidenced by her recent work in hybrid learning and clinical reasoning curricula.

Before her tenure at BGSU, Dr. Thurmond held various academic positions within DPT Education, contributing to curriculum development and serving as the Director of Curriculum. Her clinical background includes extensive experience as a physical therapist in multiple settings, enhancing her teaching with real-world insights.

A recognized leader in her field, Dr. Thurmond has presented at national conferences and published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on clinical reasoning and manual therapy. Her work has garnered several awards, including the 2022 Education Innovator Award for Outstanding Poster Presentation and multiple Best Platform Presentation awards from the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.

Dr. Thurmond is a licensed physical therapist in Ohio and Texas and an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association. Her commitment to service extends beyond academia, as she volunteers in community health initiatives and humanitarian efforts.

In addition to her professional endeavors, Dr. Thurmond is passionate about mentoring the next generation of physical therapists and continuously seeks opportunities for professional development.
