BGSU Nutrition Clinic

Misson

The BGSU Nutrition Clinic was developed to serve residents of Wood County and the surrounding area who may be otherwise unable to access nutrition education or medical nutrition therapy services, while also providing an educational experience for dietetic students and interns, consistent with the standards of The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) and the State Medical Board of Ohio.

Services

Professionally trained, state-licensed, and credentialed, registered dietitian faculty members will provide direct supervision to our eager, dietetic interns who will receive valuable academic and clinical experiences.

The BGSU Nutrition Clinic provides virtual nutrition education and medical nutrition therapy for a range of nutrition-related problems or conditions. Such problems or conditions may include hypertension (high blood pressure), dyslipidemia or high cholesterol, metabolic syndrome, pre-diabetes, overweight/obesity management, and common gastrointestinal concerns such as GERD, diverticular disease, or IBS. The clinic also provides a year-long, virtual diabetes prevention program led by trained lifestyle coaches. Click here for a list of common ICD-10 codes related to nutrition services.

1. Nutrition Education – Is the provision or reinforcement of basic or essential nutrition-related knowledge.

2. Medical Nutrition Therapy – Also called MNT is an evidence-based nutrition counseling approach provided by a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) to treat or manage a medical condition. As a reminder, this is an educational experience for our students. Clients who require continuity of care and/or those who may have coverage for medical nutrition therapy will be directed to other outpatient options available in their community.

We accept new referrals for nutrition services during the academic year, starting in September through May.

3. Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) – This program is a year-long, intensive program for adults with a high risk for diabetes. The program is focused on lifestyle change to reduce one’s risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Clients with a diagnosis of type 1 or type 2 diabetes are not eligible for this program. Learn more about DPP
