Gerontology Student Association
Gerontology Student Association
The purpose of our organization is to serve the older adult community, to develop our professional skills, and to participate actively in the Gerontology program.
Who Can Join?
Anyone who has an interest professionally or personally in older adults/gerontology is welcome to join the GSA.
What Do We Do?
Service
GSA offers its members the opportunity to participate in many service projects such as: planning programs and serving dinner at the Wood Co. Senior Center, participating in the Alzheimer's Memory Walk, raising awareness about aging issues, fundraisers. Most of our events can help you to earn volunteer hours required for the Gerontology major!!! All of our service projects give you the satisfaction of helping someone in need.
Professional Development
The Gerontology Student Association arranges for many professional speakers to come to address our group. In the past our speakers included Nursing Home Administrators, Alzheimer's Association, staff from the Wood County Committee on Aging, Congressional staff members, Gerontology Alumni, and many more. In addition, attending professional conferences provides students with an opportunity to expand their education outside of the classroom and to network for the job market.
Social Events
GSA also has many social events throughout the year. These events not only allow members to interact with other students but also with the Gerontology faculty in an informal atmosphere. We do fun things such as cookouts, holiday dinners, and family events.
