AY 25-26 Admissions for BSFS

For incoming freshmen applying for the 2025-2026 academic year please use the information below to help you navigate through the admissions process. The process below is for non-transfer students.

Step 1

If your cumulative high school GPA is lower than a 3.75 please apply to the Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science major. Scroll to the specialization you would like: Forensic DNA Analysis, Forensic Drug Analysis, or Forensic Examinations.

Because your GPA is below a 3.75 you will not meet the requirements of the secondary admit process of the forensic science major. However it is extremely important that you apply to the program so we are aware of your desire to pursue forensic science as a major.

Your GPA has determined that you will be on the "Pathway to BSFS" and your major will be changed to Chemistry. Students on the Pathway to BSFS will need to complete the following before being evaluated again:

Current BGSU students and Transfer Students may be eligible for the program if they have:

  • Obtained a cumulative college GPA of a 3.0 or better, and
  • Earned a “C” or better in CHEM 1230 (including CHEM 1240 lab) or CHEM 1350 and
  • Earned a "C" or better in CHEM 1270 (including CHEM 1280 lab) or CHEM 1370 (including CHEM 1380 lab) and
  • Earned a “C” or better in the Organic Chemistry sequence: CHEM 3410 and CHEM 3440 (including CHEM 3460 lab).

Students who meet these criteria should contact the Forensic Science program regarding admission.

Please note that students on the Pathway to BSFS will still follow the BSFS checksheet as they move through taking the coursework above. Students will also:

  • Need to tell their academic advisor of their desire to major in forensic science.
  • Students will be contacted by the forensic science office when the semester starts for one on one advising with the BSFS office (so long as you had previously applied to BSFS).
  • Students will work with a faculty mentor in forensic science to create a grad plan.
  • Do NOT add the forensic specialization when you are placed as a chemistry major.

Students who end up with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or above after their high school graduation can ask to be reevaluated so long as it is before the start of fall classes. Please email cguinsl@bgsu.edu

If your high school cumulative GPA is equal to or above a 3.75, please see Step 2.

Step 2

Complete Further Steps for Admit/Deny Decision

Students that have submitted ACT/SAT scores can be evaluated immediately for an admit decision. If you went test optional, you can submit your scores officially to BGSU and be reviewed for an admit decision.

Official College Transcripts can be submitted to BGSU, and once it is determined if transfer credits will be awarded, your application can be reviewed for an admit decision.
