Are you interested in how science is applied to legal investigations? Can you see yourself as a forensic scientist in a courtroom, laboratory, crime scene, classroom, or even morgue? BGSU’s Forensic Science camp gives high school students classroom, laboratory, and field experience in forensics and exposure to a variety of careers. Come learn about this exciting field at BGSU’s cutting-edge forensic science program taught by talented professionals who have even been featured on the hit-show Forensic Files

BGSU offers a Bachelor of Forensic Science degree with specializations in Drug, DNA and Examination that prepares students for immediate employment after graduation.

Camp Details

  • Virtual camp
  • Camp Dates: June 23-27, 2025
  • Camp Times: 9 AM - 12 PM with optional lab sessions from 1-2 PM
  • Eligibility: Rising 9th - 12th grade in fall 2025

What kinds of activities do campers get to do?

  • Learn forensic science through college-style lectures with top forensic specialists
  • Learn about laboratory work related to DNA analysis, trace evidence, fingerprinting, and blood stain analysis
  • Hear from BCI trained experts who will lead camp sessions
  • Follow a forensic scientist on a virtual tour through a mock crime scene 
  • Complete home labs such as print casting, fingerprinting, evidence collection, blood typing and more.

Who can attend?

Students entering 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th grade. We highly encourage (but do not require) students to have completed at least one advanced math or science course prior to camp.

Camp Format & Schedule 

  • The camp will consist of an online learning platform that you will gain access to once the camp begins and meetings will take place on Zoom
  • Camp Times: 9 AM to Noon Monday through Friday with optional lab sessions from 1 to 2 PM in the afternoon
  • Camp materials will be sent out and received prior to the start of camp.

What does the cost cover?  

The cost of $225 (camperships possible) covers the entire week of activities, webinars, lectures along with a camp crate filled with activities to do at home. A camp workbook, BGSU Forensic Science  T-Shirt and all lab materials needed to complete the mock crime scene will be sent as part of the camp crate. Once accepted a non-refundable deposit is required to secure your spot in camp. 

Camp Registration Dates & Deadlines  

  • Early Registration Deadline: March 2nd 
    • Registration occurs on a rolling basis. Campers who complete payment in full by March 2nd will receive a complimentary BGSU Momentum Metro Crossbody Bag with their kit. This incentive does not apply to webinar only students. 
  • General Deadline: April 25th
    • Please note that all available spots may fill by the early registration deadline. 

Payment Due Dates

  • Registration is a rolling process until all spots are filled. Students who register have 10 days to complete the camp deposit securing their spot. 
  • Campers who pay in full for the webinar and camp crate by March 2 will also receive a complimentary camp bookbag.
  • Please contact the office to request a payment plan if needed. Final payments on payment plans are due May 1. 

CampDoc and Permission Forms 

BGSU Summer Camps uses a system called CampDocs to collect the necesary forms and permissions for campers to be able to fully participate in the program. A CampDoc Invitation  e-mail will be sent in May to complete. 

Virtual Camp Forms and Permissions that will be collected:

  • BGSU Waiver
  • Media Release
  • Online Policy and Camp Rules
  • Permission to send camp specific materials through the mail (i.e. dissection kits, lab chemicals etc)

ATTENTION!! Parents/Guardians must first grant permission through CampDocs before materials and dissection kits can be mailed.

Camp Cancellation Policy

Refunds for canceled registrations will be issued to the individual or organization that made the original payment, according to the following schedule:

  • On or before May 1: A full refund, minus the non-refundable deposit, will be provided.
  • 21 or more days before the start of camp: A 75% refund, minus the non-refundable deposit, will be provided.
  • 14–20 days before the start of camp: A 50% refund, minus the non-refundable deposit, will be provided.
  • Less than 14 days before the start of camp: No refund will be provided.

Additional Notes:

  • No refunds will be given for "no-shows."
  • Participants dismissed from camp for disciplinary reasons are not eligible for any refund.
