Keele Semester Abroad
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Students from a variety of BGSU teacher education programs take 15 credit hours of course work at Keele University in England. Courses, instructed by both Keele and BGSU faculty, are transferred and fully credited toward completion of BGSU education programs. Keele University was founded in 1949 as a residential campus university situated in the heart of England. There are currently about 7,000 full-time and part-time students. Of these, more than 200 each year come as visiting students.
LOCATION
Centrally located in England, two hours northwest of London, between Manchester and Birmingham.
TRAVEL
The program schedule includes on month of spring break when students have the opportunity to travel together around England and throughout Europe to experience added social and cultural aspects of this special opportunity.
HOUSING ACCOMMODATIONS
Study Abroad students are offered accommodations in bedrooms with washbasins and shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. Resident fees are paid after they arrive.
OPPORTUNITIES AT KEELE UNIVERSITY
Students interested in study abroad at Keele University should have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. The 15 credits taken as part of the Keele University study abroad program will transfer completely to the BGSU program of study. Among the courses that are usually available as part of the Keele semester are:
Professional Education Courses required at Bowling Green State University that can be taken at Keele University include:
EDIS 2310 or EIEC 2110, EDFI 2980, and EDAS 4090 or EDL 4090.
General Education Courses to fulfill arts and humanities (literature and history), science and electives (consult program checksheet for specifics).
PROGRAM COST
Program costs are the same as semester tuition you pay at BGSU (the following may apply: financial aid loans, grants, and scholarships). The only additional cost is a $500 special program administration fee that is billed directly to the student's Bursar account upon acceptance to the Keele Study Abroad program. Group air travel to and from Keele with the BGSU professor is arranged for all enrolled students. Travel scholarships are available through the BGSU Study Abroad Office.
