Student Assistance & Advocacy Specialist

The Counseling Center's Student Assistance & Advocacy Specialist (SAAS) helps to support students’ overall success by reducing barriers and connecting them to resources and supports!  Some of the ways the SAAS can support students is to: 

  • Assist students in overcoming obstacles they encounter by identifying needs, problem solving and exploring solutions
  • Provide individualized support and advocacy for each student
  • Help students navigate university processes and systems
  • Provide resources and support related to mental and physical health, food & housing insecurity and academic concerns
  • Make referrals to community mental health and social services agencies
  • Coordinate care for students needing on-going support or who is connected with multiple services/providers
  • Advocate for student’s needs as well as encourage self-efficacy

SAAS is available to all current BGSU students and students don’t need to be clients at the Counseling Center. To get connected to the SAAS, please call 419-372-2081 to schedule a case management appointment!
