James Stover
James Stover is an Assistant Professor of Acting and Musical Theatre in the Department of Theatre and Film at BGSU. His previous academic positions include Assistant Professor and Head of Musical Theatre at Purdue University Fort Wayne, Visiting Assistant Professor at The University of Toledo and Visiting Assistant Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University. He holds an MFA in Theatre Performance Pedagogy from VCU and a BFA in Musical Theatre from Otterbein University.
A member of the Actor's Equity Association, James' favorite acting credits include "The Eclectic Society" (world premiere, Walnut Street Theatre), "Yank!" (award-winning new musical starring Tony Nominee Bobby Steggert), "Tea & Sympathy" (Off-Broadway Revival, Keen Company), "South Pacific" (Virginia Repertory Theatre), "Measure for Measure" (Quintessence Theatre), "Youth Ink" (McCarter Theatre), "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (New England Shakespeare Festival), "A Year with Frog and Toad" (Virginia Musical Theatre, with Daytime Emmy Winner Matthew Wilson) and two seasons at the Tony-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival.
His television credits include: 'Law & Order' and 'Turn: Washington's Spies'. He has appeared in commercials and independent films and recently co-wrote, produced and starred in the short film "Teacher Fight", which premiered at the 2022 Hoosier Films Annual Festival in Bloomington, IN.
His professional directing credits include: "The Amish Project" (Philadelphia's Simpatico Theatre, Barrymore Nomination-Distinguished Production), "Yank!" (Richmond Triangle Players), "The Fantasticks" (Indiana's Myers Dinner Theatre) and the world premiere of his play "Wilkes" (Glacity Theatre Collective). Favorite academic directing projects include: "The World According to Snoopy" (Purdue Fort Wayne, Broadway World Award-Best Musical), "Urinetown" (VCU) and "The Importance of Being Earnest" (University of Toledo, KCACTF Meritorious Directing Certificate). "Wilkes" was published in 2020 by Eldridge Plays and a monologue from it was included in Smith & Kraus' Best Men's Monologues 2021.
