Harry Mathias (1901 - 1984)
Harry Roy Mathias, 83, formerly of 123 E. Evers Ave., Bowling Green, died Tuesday In the Community Nursing Home after a one-year Illness.
He was a professor emeritus of mathematics at Bowling Green State University where he taught for 40 years, retiring in 1971.
Mathias was a member of Rotary International, Trinity United Methodist Church, Sigma XI math [sic] honorary and Kappa Mu Epsilon, an education honorary [sic] of which he was the former national vice president and recipient of the distinguished member award in 1981.
He was a graduate of Indiana Central University, received his master's degree from Indiana University and also studied at the University of Michigan,
He was born Jan. 25, 1901 In Rochester, Ind, to Mr. and Mrs. William Mathias (Phila Kennell). He married Ethel M. Hoover, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lorene Searfoss, Perrysburg; and Mrs. Phyllis Ward, Grand Rapids, Mich.; a brother, Oren Mathias, Rochester, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Dunn Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.
