Resident Advisor Desk Manager (RADM)

The Resident Advisor Desk Manager is a part-time (28 hours a week) paraprofessional staff member of the Office of Residence Life who lives in an assigned residence hall and supports desk operations within their assigned hall. The RADM position is categorized as 15 hours (Resident Advisor) and 13 hours (Desk Manager) for a combined 28 hours (Resident Advisor Desk Manager).

The Resident Advisor Desk Manager is a member of the Hall Leadership Team and is directly supervised by the Residence Hall Director and Graduate Hall Director. In addition to modified Resident Advisor responsibilities, the Resident Advisor Desk Manager is responsible for the supervision of Desk Clerks, desk scheduling, and administrative tasks that are related to hall operations.

The Resident Advisor Desk Manager keeps their supervisor informed of activities, problems, and needs of the residents and the community. The RADM gets to know residents and the larger residential community to build an engaged, safe, and inclusive environment for academic success and personal growth. The RADM helps to establish and maintain open lines of communication between residents of the hall and the Office of Residence Life. This appointment is for one full academic year and will start on July 30th, 2025.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have 1 year of Resident Advisor experience, 1 year of Student Desk Manager experience, OR 2 years of Desk Clerk experience prior to the start date of the position.
  • Must have, and maintain, a 2.75 term and cumulative GPA.
  • Must work 13 hours per week in addition to the 15 hour per week requirement for the RA portion of the position.
  • 15 office hours must be scheduled M-F 8am-5pm 
  • Cannot currently be on Residence Life Employment Probation, Resident or University Student Conduct Probation or Academic Probation.

RADM Job Duties

Front Desk and Office Management

  • Manage at least one 24-hour Front Desk which serves the residents and guests of a building
  • Ensure quality customer service at the Front Desk
  • Assist the Graduate Assistant/Hall Director and Coordinator for Leadership and Administration with Desk Clerk training
  • During Resident Advisor Training, work with Graduate Assistant/Hall Director to train RAs on Front Desk operations
  • Train Residence Hall staff on Front Desk operations throughout the year
  • Directly supervise the Student Desk Clerk staff
  • Evaluate the Desk Clerks as needed, but minimally once per semester
  • Schedule Desk shifts, find coverage and fill in when staff miss a shift
  • Facilitate a regular monthly meeting for all staff who work the Front Desk
  • Assist Hall Director with managing and approving Desk Clerk time reporting and payroll matters

Housing, Facilities and Residence Life

  • Communicate effectively with campus partners, such as Facilities and Operations, Housing, and other partners
  • Monitor inventory of student room keys, lock-out keys, and PEDs through weekly audits
  • Process lock changes and follow-up on charges and billing
  • Assist with room change processes
  • Ensure the completion of check-in and check-out records that are submitted electronically
  • Prepare keys and PEDs for distribution to incoming residents prior to the beginning of each semester
  • Assist Hall Director/Graduate Assistant in preparing check-in and check-out materials for residents

Administrative Support

  • Handle telephone calls which require knowledge of Desk and Residence Life policies
  • Assist in coordinating the disbursement of flyers per the Residence Life posting policy
  • Communicate vending and laundry machine concerns to appropriate personnel
  • Manage all logs, inventories, and equipment associated with the Front Desk (packages, keys, etc.)
  • Assist with billing
  • Assist with ordering supplies
  • Assist with information needed for the End of the Year Report
  • Create and maintain the Housebook
  • Oversee the labeling of student mailboxes
  • Coordinate the delivery process for mail and packages

Other Duties

  • Attend monthly Resident Advisor Desk Manager meetings
  • Attend and actively participate in Fall Training (Aug.) and Spring Training (Jan.)
  • Attend weekly Resident Advisor Staff meetings at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights
  • Perform additional duties and special assignments as directed
  • Resident Advisor Desk Managers will participate in their own duty rotation (this replaces the expectations set forth for the RA duty rotation as outlined in the RA Contract). This duty rotation will answer calls from Desk Clerks and Resident Assistant regarding desk related issues only. Duty begins each night at 6:00PM and continues until 8:00AM the following morning, Sunday through Thursday. On weekends (Friday and Saturday), duty begins at 6:00pm and concludes at 6:00pm the following day (Friday 6pm-Saturday 6pm, Saturday 6pm-Sunday 6pm). RADMs are expected to remain on campus during these hours and be able to respond within 15 minutes. RADMs must keep the duty phone on them at all times during these on-call hours and should not attend sporting events or other programs where they may not be able to answer the phone. 
  • RADMs must notify the Hall Director or Hall Director on Duty by phone of any non-desk related issues or escalated issues that require Professional Staff intervention.
  • Return for Fall Training prior to the start of Resident Advisor training.
