Graduation Invitation Letter for Visa Interviews
When a student would like to invite friends and family from outside of the United States to visit for their commencement ceremony, they are required to obtain a visa to enter the country. To obtain the visa, the friends and family will need to schedule a visa interview and oftentimes, a letter is required from the individual living in the United States detailing the nature of their trip. To assist with the visa interview, the student should:
- Write a letter inviting the friends and family to the United States and detail the nature of the trip;
- Provide a copy of the Enrollment Verification from the Student Center to verify enrollment at the university;
- If the invitation is to attend a commencement ceremony, the graduation application email confirmation can be included in the letter inviting friends and family to attend the ceremony.
Graduation Invitation Letter
- Note: This is a personal letter from the student living in the United States to their family and friends. It is not from the university and should not be on university letterhead. It also does not need a stamp or signature from anyone at the university.

I am writing to inform you that I have invited my (relationship to guest(s), parent, friend, etc.,) (full name of guest(s)) to visit me in the United States from (start date of visit) to (end date of visit). The sole purpose of their trip is to visit me, and they have no intention of remaining in the United States. Their travel expenses including food, lodging and other expenses will be paid by (name).
The full name, passport number and country of passport issuance for my guest is/are as follows:
