Empowered to Teach
Empowered to Teach: Inspiring Deep Learning through Excellent Teaching
Jennings Educators Institute
Three PD sessions: three Saturdays, September 9th, October 7th, and November 11, 2017 at Bowling Green State University in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union from 8 a.m. – 12 Noon. Free parking is available, and each session will begin with breakfast.
The Institute will focus on the intersection of solid curriculum, quality instruction and sound assessment practices.
The Foundation has asked the following professional educators to facilitate the sessions:
- Dr. James Connell, former Superintendent of the Berea City Schools (1998-2005, Retired) and Assistant Professor and Interim Dean , Ursuline College (September 9)
- Dr. Thomas Lasley, Executive Director, Learn to Earn and Professor at the University of Dayton (October 7)
- Dr. James Mahoney, Executive Director Emeritus, Battelle for Kids (November 11)
You will be required to read a few articles prior to each session in order to enhance the discussion. If you wish to earn one graduate credit you will need to complete a paper/ project, attend all three sessions, and pay for the credit. You may enroll as a three to four person team from your building or district or as an individual participant. We hope that a school/district administrator would be a member of the team, but it is not a requirement. The Institute will be limited to 100 participants. You will be honored as a “Jennings Institute Educator” at the conclusion of the last session. An additional opportunity is provided for those teachers seeking to further collaborate with colleagues and to implement strategies in their classroom under the Jennings Fellows program. More information will be provided at the first Institute session about this process and designation.
The Martha Holden Jennings Foundation is excited about this professional development opportunity. We hope that the Institute will energize you, promote networking opportunities, and enhance your classroom instruction. The application should be completed and emailed to Dr. Tracy Huziak-Clark, by August 23, 2017. Her email address is thuziak@bgsu.edu, telephone 419-372-7363.
