Congratulations to faculty, students and alumni on recent accomplishments

Happy 5th anniversary, President Rogers

On Thursday, BGSU marked five years with President Rodney K. Rogers at the helm. President Rogers '81 assumed the role as the 12th president of Bowling Green State University on Feb. 23, 2018. Before being named president, he served BGSU as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs since 2012 and, before that, as dean of the Allen W. and Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business since 2006. President Rogers is the first alumnus to serve as president of Bowling Green State University.


Freddies and Friedas, revealed

Bird is the word, and the word is out. On Saturday, the students who served as mascots Freddie and Frieda Falcon were revealed during the men's basketball game vs. rival Toledo. The students, who kept their secret for a year, were:

  • Leila Oswalt
  • Charlie Nykiel
  • Sawyer Holbrook
  • Oscar Dunkle
  • Olivia Thornton

Presidents Day by the numbers

On Monday, BGSU welcomed thousands of high school students and their families to campus as one of the first steps in designing their ultimate college experience. The University's largest, most comprehensive event of the year, featured guided campus tours with current BGSU students, academic department visits, presentations, lab experiences and self-guided residence hall tours.

By the numbers:

  • 456 people attended the Taste of BG event
  • 1,290 students were on campus for Presidents Day (with guests, a total of 4,284 people)
  • 19 states were represented
  • 944 seniors
  • 14 transfer students
  • 18% multicultural students
  • 71 Pathway students
  • 115 Thompson Scholarship recipients

Graphic design student honors

Congratulations to Division of Graphic Design students Eddie Santiago and Lindsy Buser '09, who were both named "2023 Students to Watch" by Graphic Design USA, a premier publication of information for graphic designers and the broader creative community. Santiago, native of Puerto Rico who now resides in Lorain, Ohio, is an undergraduate who has design skills in a variety of areas, including UI/UX design, design for social impact, art and design history, metalworking and printmaking. Buser, who completed her graphic design undergraduate degree at BGSU in 2009, is pursuing her Master of Design in integrative design and has taught design courses at BGSU.
