All-Pro NFL running back Eddie George joins Bowling Green State University as its new head football coach, adding to the growing momentum the University is experiencing both in athletics and student success.

George, who played football for the Ohio State Buckeyes, is a Heisman Trophy winner, College Football Hall of Famer and former running back for the Tennessee Titans and Dallas Cowboys. He is the University’s 21st head football coach.

"I am truly excited to be the head coach at Bowling Green State University,” George said. “Bowling Green is a wonderful community that has embraced the school and the athletics department. We are eager to immerse ourselves in the community and help build this program to the greatness it deserves. I am overwhelmed with excitement and joy for the possibilities this opportunity holds. I’m also thrilled to be back in the great state of Ohio, where I played my college football. I look forward to meeting the team, the coaches, everyone in the athletics department and everyone in the BGSU and Bowling Green community.”

George joins BGSU at a pivotal time in the University’s history. Enrollment and retention have reached historic levels during the past two years, record giving has expanded access to higher education and the nationally recognized Life Design program is redefining undergraduate education at BGSU.

An integral part of the comprehensive university experience, athletics is experiencing a surge in student engagement and fan enthusiasm under the tenure of Vice President of Athletics Strategy and Athletics Director Derek van der Merwe.

Further exemplifying the momentum, BGSU is ranked by The Wall Street Journal as the No. 3 public university in the nation — and the No. 1 public university in the Midwest — students would choose again.
