Falcon student-athletes each high remarks in the classroom
The Office of Student-Athlete Services strives to develop Bowling Green State University’s student-athletes holistically in four focus areas — academics, personal, professional and service. SAS does so by providing resources and customized programming designed to enhance the overall student-athlete experience and individual well-being.
According to Chet Hesson, who is the assistant AD for Academics and Student Services, BGSU’s coaches continue to recruit high-character and high-academic-achieving students. As you can see in the accolades listed below, these exceptional student-athletes have gone on to invest the time and energy it takes to stand out and go far — not only within the conference, but nationally.
“Their recognition and success are very well deserved and I appreciate the coaches, SAS support staff and, of course, the student-athletes themselves for their commitment to academic excellence,” Hesson said.
BGSU Athletics posted some of its best Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in history according to the NCAA. All of the Falcons' 18 sports have multi-year APR rates of 939 or above and nine posted a perfect 1000 single-year rate in the latest report for the 2016-17 year.
All 18 of BGSU's teams were comfortably above the NCAA's 930 minimum score that would result in scholarship limitations or postseason bans. Men's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Women's Golf and Gymnastics have the highest APR scores in the conference for their respective sports.
"We are extremely proud of the academic achievements of our student-athletes," Director of Athletics Bob Moosbrugger said. "It is gratifying to see nine teams score a perfect single-year score as well as the continued multi-year improvement. We will continue to strive for excellence in the classroom and in competition. We firmly believe excellence in both can co-exist."
