Summer Reading List: Dash Yost Jun 24, 2013 2:17 PM I've worked for the same company, custom suit outfitter Tom James Company, since January 2007. I visit clients in their homes and offices. We have great relationships! Being in sales and leadership, I love to read books related to the principles of success. My favorite titles offer timeless insight for becoming successful in every aspect of life. We are all influenced by our attitudes and thoughts - positive or negative - and that idea helps me to be the best person I can be.

From biology to baseball Jun 24, 2013 2:16 PM Biologist Dr. Robert Romans was known as one of the University's most effective and beloved faculty members, so much so that in 1986 students chose him as recipient of the Master Teacher Award, considered BGSU's highest honor for teaching. Romans retired in 1994, and passed away May 11, 2007. Romans was an avid collector. This year, his wife, Jean, donated his collection of over 40,000 baseball cards, appraised at approximately $22,500, to BGSU's internationally known Browne Popular Culture Library.

War-torn childhoods Jun 24, 2013 2:13 PM As ethnic and political conflicts proliferate around the world, violence has become part of people's daily lives, including children's. Nowhere is this more prevalent than in the war-torn Middle East. BGSU psychologist Dr. Eric Dubow is part of an international, multidisciplinary team studying the long-term effects of violence on children and, perhaps more importantly, looking for factors that may confer a degree of protection from its impact so that parents, communities and social agencies can provide effective support to the most vulnerable victims of circumstance.

Learning to speak the language of 'Big Data' Jun 17, 2013 2:19 PM In an increasingly data-driven world, businesses need an interpreter to make sense of what all the data they are collecting have to say to them. BGSU is preparing students and business people to learn that language through an undergraduate specialization in business analytics and intelligence and a brand new master of analytics program. There are few comparable degree programs at peer institutions.

The little team that could Jun 10, 2013 2:21 PM In 2005, a northwest Ohio high school baseball team finished the season with a 6-17 record. The team from Gibsonburg shook off its losing record and won the state championship against all odds. The story of these unlikely champions is the heart of alumnus Bob Mahaffey's film "Gibsonburg."

Summer Reading List: Shannon Spencer Jun 10, 2013 2:20 PM There are so many reasons to read often, and to read the best stuff you can get your hands on. In my job, I meet new people constantly. Whether I'm working directly with the University's generous alumni and friends, our dedicated student callers in the Telefund, or BGSU class reunion guests, a conversation about a great book can be the perfect icebreaker when meeting someone for the first time. I love when new friends recommend titles, and often those books become my new favorites.

Fish sense Jun 3, 2013 2:23 PM What does the Office of Naval Research (ONR) want with a bunch of fish? To help design a better Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), of course. Dr. Sheryl Coombs, a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Bowling Green State University, received a grant to help do just that.
