NFL players become BGSU ‘students’ at communications boot camp May 14, 2013 3:21 PM Bowling Green State University has some unusual “summer school” students this week. Twenty-three current and former NFL players — including 12-year NFL veteran Charlie Batch, 2012 Patriots Hall of Fame inductee Troy Brown, and 2001 Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch — are attending the first-ever NFL Sports Journalism and Communications Boot Camp, from May 13-16.

Winning hearts and awards May 13, 2013 3:25 PM “Bearing Witness: The Voices of Our Survivors,” a documentary film by Heather Elliott-Famularo of Bowling Green State University, had its world premiere on April 8 at the Palm Beach International Film Festival (PBIFF), where it was one of the two winners of the Audience Favorite Award for Best Documentary.

The Growth of a Story May 13, 2013 3:24 PM “It had wine. It had Prohibition. It had gangsters. It had money. And, it was about the history of California,” Dr. Lawrence Coates mused, when asked about the inspiration for his third novel, “The Garden of the World.” But, as is often the case when writing a novel, the maturation of the story took time, though the fruit of his labor has been sweet, as Coates recently accepted the 2013 Nancy Dasher Award for the work, presented by the College English Association of Ohio.

Falcon Flames create new four-year scholarships at BGSU May 13, 2013 10:37 AM Paul Joseph Hooker was born in Orrville, Ohio in 1952. His mother died when he was 7 years old, and his father, who worked on the railroad, raised him and his four siblings. He matriculated to Bowling Green State University after graduating from Orrville High School in 1971. It was there that he met is partner for life, Nadine Margo Plasteras.

New outlook on life May 6, 2013 10:39 AM Lohse, a senior, College of Business, from Defiance, Ohio knew that he wanted to attend BGSU, but finding a way to pay for tuition was very difficult. Both of his parents were diagnosed with cancer: his mother with melanoma and his father with liver cancer. With high medical bills Lohse couldn't ask on them to cover the bills. But, through a combination of BGSU scholarships, federal loans and grants, he was able to cover the costs of tuition and attend BGSU.

Youngest BGSU graduate of 2013 dreams of dental school May 6, 2013 10:38 AM As other students his age claim their high school diploma, Logan Wolph is celebrating the bachelor's degree in biology he has earned cum laude at Bowling Green State University. He will turn 18 in August, and aspires to enter a graduate program in dentistry in the future.

BGSU issues call for young musician applicants for ‘From the Top’ May 1, 2013 3:28 PM Accomplished young classical musicians from northwest Ohio are invited to audition for a chance to appear on National Public Radio’s popular program “From the Top.” Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts will host a live taping of the preeminent showcase for young musicians, to be recorded at the Moore Musical Arts Center Sept. 28. The event will lead off the college’s 2013-14 Festival Series.

Falcon Cheerleaders Bring Home Gold Medal May 1, 2013 3:26 PM Four BGSU cheerleaders, along with assistant coach David Clemons, earned gold medals at the 2013 International Cheer Union World Championships April 15-26. Abbey Pilgrim, Rebekah Pastor, Michelle Bowles and Megan Gill represented BGSU in a field of 70 participating countries.
