Temple game to include sock drive

BOWLING GREEN, O.—Bowling Green State University’s football game against Temple University this Saturday (Oct. 22) at Doyt Perry Stadium will also feature a massive collection of socks for the needy. The goal is 15,000 pairs, just in time for the cold weather.

The partnership with Hannah’s Socks began over the summer during BGSU’s Camp Millionaire, a weeklong event devoted to teaching the basics of money and finance to eighth-graders. Campers met 10-year-old Hannah Turner of Perrysburg, founder of the national Hannah’s Socks charity, and then created their own business plans for organizing sock collections back in their schools this fall. The University has offered free tickets to all of them, who will form the “tunnel” for the Falcons running onto the field.

Meanwhile, on the BGSU campus, student organizations ranging from the Russian Club to the International Business Association have joined the collection effort, along with campus offices and departments. A service-learning group of Management 3600 students is also hosting a 5K run Saturday at 9:30 a.m. starting at the Perry Field House. Registration is $5 or 10 pairs of socks.

To celebrate the sock drive there will be a tent open from 1:30-3:30 p.m. before the game. Hannah and her family will be there to thank all sock donors.

Everyone attending the game is asked to “Give a care, bring a pair” of socks to the game. Collection boxes will be positioned at the gates.
