The Backburner Tuba and Euphonium Collective embodies the “spirit” of the tuba and euphonium artist. The ensemble serves as a club for tuba and euphonium artists who seek new initiatives for the instruments. Backburner members include several chamber and solo recording artists from around the world. Many of the members also teach at colleges and universities. A close-knit group of friends who are active in various areas, Backburner works to enhance and present the chamber repertoire for tuba and euphonium. Partly due to its close collaboration with composers, the Backburner Tuba and Euphonium Collective presents surprising combinations of instruments, styles and playing techniques without losing sight of the existing jazz, modern or classical repertoire. Backburner also represent this era’s relentless pursuit of creating an environment which fosters diversity and inclusivity. This is reflected in both the ensemble’s personnel and choice of repertoire.
