Flute Camp
Are you a high school or advanced middle school flutist interested in a challenging atmosphere where you can improve your skills? Join us this summer for SMI Flute Camp. A typical day includes private lessons, seminars, master classes, flute choirs, guest artist or student/faculty performances. Classes will cover topics such as breathing, sound, articulation, technique, performance anxiety, practice strategies and more. Each student will have the opportunity to perform in chamber ensembles, masterclasses, and flute choir.
Preparation
SMI Flute Camp is for students entering grades 9-12. High school graduates are also welcome. Conditional acceptance of younger students may be requested via email to Shannon Lotti, the camp director. Students should prepare an etude or solo for placement on the first day of camp.
Scholarships
Scholarships are available to help defray the cost of the camp. Please check the Scholarships page for more information.
Masterclasses
Daily masterclasses will allow camp participants to perform with piano for their peers and receive feedback from faculty members.
Chamber Music
Following Flute Camp placement auditions, each camper will be placed into a small chamber group that will rehearse daily to perform on the final concert.
Final Concert
The culminating performance of the camp will take place on Friday. Each student will perform as a part of their chamber group and as a full flute choir. This performance is open to the public, so feel free to invite family and friends!
