However, the passage of time and exposure to the elements have dulled the mural's once-vibrant colors, diminishing its prominence and impact. Restoring the Jerome Library mural is crucial to reinvigorating this iconic feature, ensuring it remains a proud symbol of BGSU’s identity. The $1 million restoration project is set to begin in April 2025 and is slated for completion in November 2025, playing a pivotal role in preserving this essential piece of campus history.

About the Campaign

The mural project goes beyond a basic paint touch-up and cleaning, focusing on restoring and preserving this public artwork for the long term. This includes necessary concrete repairs, tuckpointing, and repainting the mural to maintain its visibility for years to come. The restoration process will be thorough and precise, involving multiple steps such as repairing cracks, stabilizing loose paint, and applying protective sealants to guard against environmental damage, ensuring the mural stays vibrant and well-preserved for the future.

Don Drumm on Campus

Donald Drumm was the first artist in residence at Bowling Green State University from 1965 to 1971. The Wm T. Jerome Library mural, a striking campus landmark visible from miles away, was created by Drumm, who also designed murals for the Saddlemire Student Services, Psychology, and Education buildings. His artwork remains preserved across various locations on campus, and he continues to produce new pieces from his studio in Akron, Ohio.
