PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO IN FOOD AND NUTRITION
This culminating experience will prepare students currently enrolled in the dietetic internship for professional entry into the field as a registered dietitian-nutritionist. This experience can fulfill the culminating experience of the MFN degree program pending successful completion including four credit hours of FN 6960. Enrollment in excess of four hours is acceptable, but no more than four hours may be credited towards the degree. Pre-requisites: Current enrollment in BGSU’s on-campus or distance dietetic internship, including credit or prior credit in FN 6200, or FN 6210, or FN 6220. May be repeated. Approved for distance education.
This experience includes two major components (1) preparation for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) Credentialing examination and (2) development of a professional portfolio.
Students will utilize the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics platform known as eatrightPREP® - this platform complies with the current RDN Exam test specifications, better preparing students for the exam. Students will create a study plan, complete a pre-test, practice tests, and simulated examinations to prepare for the exam. Students will use flashcards, peer discussion, and games to prepare for the examination.
The portfolio will integrate and synthesize a dietetic intern’s academic and internship experiences to demonstrate their competency for entry-level professional practice. Students will demonstrate their competency using written narrative, artifacts, and oral presentation.The portfolio is an opportunity for students to highlight dietetic internship and academic experiences for the purpose of evaluating quality of coursework, academic progression, and achievement of the MFN program outcomes. Students will be expected to demonstrate competency for the program outcomes as well as the five domains established by the 2022 Standards for Dietetic Internship programs.
