MSW Admission Requirements
The MSW is not supported for students with F-1 VISA Status.
Advanced Standing Requirements
Hold a bachelor's degree in social work from a CSWE accredited social work program AND (1) have graduated within the past three years OR (2) have at least three years’ experience as a professional social worker.
An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
An official transcript from an accredited institution of higher learning.
A current resume
Statement of Purpose
Two Letters of Recommendation, one of which needs to be from one of the following: agency field supervisor, university field director, or current employment supervisor.
Students who receive less than a B in undergraduate core social work courses will be required to take the equivalent course content in the generalist curriculum and earn at least a B if admitted.
Regular Standing Requirements
An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students who have a GPA less than 3.0 are admitted on a case-by-case basis and will have provisional status upon admission. Students who have a GPA less than 2.75 are below the minimum GPA set by the Graduate College and may not be eligible for admission.
An official transcript from an accredited institution of higher learning. Human service degrees (psychology, sociology, human development, ethnic studies, education, nursing, physical/occupational/speech/recreational therapy) are preferred but not required.

Statement of Purpose
Two Letters of Recommendation from individuals with knowledge of the applicant's qualifications and ability to successfully complete graduate study.
Applicants who have not taken a research methods course as part of their undergraduate education will need to take a research methods course prior to or within the first two semesters if admitted.
Statement of Purpose Directions
In a typewritten, using 12-point font and 1” margins, 1.5 spacing, name in upper left corner, 3-5 page paper, please answer the following questions:
- Describe your previous/current social work or human service experience (employment, volunteer, internship, etc.) and how this has motivated you to pursue an MSW?
- What skills or assts do you bring to the MSW Program, and what do you hope to gain from the Program?
- Identify a social justice issue that you are passionate about and describe why this is important to you and what you would like to see changed.
- The Social Work Profession values diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is defined as “the intersectionality of multiple factors including but not limited to age, caste, class, color, culture, disability and ability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, generational status, immigration status, legal status, marital status, political ideology, race, nationality, religion/spirituality, sex, sexual orientation, and tribal sovereign status”. Discuss your views regarding diversity and inclusion, in what ways are you or have you been privileged in your life to this point (or not), and how will your views and experiences affect your future practice as an advanced level practitioner.
