2020 Recap
McCord Junior High and Sylvania Northview High School both repeated as tournament winners and have won their respective divisions every year BGSU has hosted the tournament since 2015. Both teams also set BGSU regional record low scores of 50 for McCord and 47 for Northview, which correspond to an average of about a second place finish per event. Also, for the second year in a row, the two Northview teams took first and second overall in the High School Division.
Five schools from both divisions qualified for the Ohio state competition and seemed ready to take on some of the nation’s strongest teams, but unfortunately the tournament was cancelled before they had the chance to compete. The state tournament qualifying teams were McCord, Arbor Hills, Timberstone, Springfield, and Paulding from the B division, and Northview, Southview, Springfield, Shawnee, and Paulding from the C division.
Full results can be found here for Division B and Division C.
All teams had strong performances as 31 out of 34 participating teams made the medal stand for at least one event, and all teams had at least one top-9 finish. Most importantly, participants had a lot of fun and learned a great deal about birds, fish, fossils, forensics, protein structure, circuits, detectors, astronomy, anatomy, diseases, vehicles, planes, parachutes, and numerous other aspects of science.
Special thanks to our awards ceremony guests: speaker Heather Pollauf from 13abc, BCSN sports announcer Greg Franke, and BGSU a cappella group Tonal Eclipse for a festive and joyous event.
We hope to see everyone back for 2022 and some new teams to join this engaging and exciting competition!
