We care about you, and in an emergency, we want to get you connected to services right away! If this is a life-threatening emergency, please contact 911.

If you are not experiencing a life-threatening emergency, and you agree with any of the following example statements, you should seek emergency support:

  • I am concerned about my ability to keep myself safe
  • I have a current plan to attempt suicide
  • I have taken recent steps to end my life
  • I may physically hurt someone else
  • I have a strong desire to harm someone else
  • Someone else is concerned about my ability to keep myself safe
  • I have recently been physically or sexually assaulted
  • I have just received traumatic news (examples: someone close to me has died or received a serious diagnosis, my home or community has had a disaster)
  • I am hearing voices or seeing things other people do not
  • I am concerned about someone else’s safety

BGSU Counseling Center Crisis Services

  • Call or drop in at the Counseling Center, and ask for the on-call counselor.  An on-call counselor is available anytime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

BGSU Counseling Center Crisis Response Team

  • After hours crisis support during the academic year.  Co-responder model with UPD.  Days and hours vary semester to semester.  For more information on current days and hours click here
  • Phone: Calls can be made through the BGSU Police Department.  The number to access them is (419) 372-2346.
  • Location: Anywhere on BGSU's main campus

  • Call or text the National Crisis Line at 988
  • Crisis Text Line -Text HOME to 741741 for a crisis counselor or text STEVE to 741741 for a culturally competent crisis counselor. You can also text or dial 988 to be connected to a crisis counselor 24/7.

  • The Cocoon (victims’ advocacy for sexual assault or relationship violence) – 419-373-1730

Concerned about someone else? Here are some options.

  • Call the Counseling Center at 419-372-2081 and ask for the on-call counselor.  We will discuss your concerns and help decide on a course of action.
  • Outside regular business hours (8am-5pm Mon-Fri), call one of the 24/7 crisis services listed above for consultation.
  • If you believe there is an immediate life-threatening emergency, you have the option of calling for a wellness check. Call 911 or contact campus or city police. A police officer or other emergency responder will seek out the student of concern and check on their safety.
  • Faculty and staff assisting students in distress resources.
